In Their Words

Testimonials

Members of our network sharing their experiences of finding community, faith and friendship with Bristol Revert Network.

Alhamdulillah, great circle of brothers to be around. Always great to share your thoughts and struggles with other reverts, whilst getting genuinely helpful advice.

Being a member of the revert group has helped me in more ways than I can ever have hoped for. It’s brought me closer to my faith and has allowed me to find a family and a brotherhood who I can lean on when needed.

We are a group of very friendly, gentle, understanding caring, non judgemental, serious but fun Muslims of various ages & “walks of life” local to Bristol (brothers & sisters) who meet (separately of course) ever month (InshaAllah).

We are all either reverts, married to reverts or just born Muslims who have kindly, may Allah (SWT) reward them, given up their time to just sit (on chairs!) listen & share eachothers lives with 1 another.

We just sit round in a group (on chairs!!) eating cake & drinking, the most excellent Chai & share with eachother anything we want about our lives (if you want to of course no pressure). Then chat about whatever it is you’ve chosen to share & try to empathise with you maybe offer the benefit of our experiences & any Islamic wisdom we may have with you, before moving on to the next brother who wants to share.

Whilst of course we try to relate everything to Islam as much as we can, we do this on principles & concepts which we have knowledge off from either the holy Qur’an or Hadith’s of the prophet Muhammed (PBUH), but have no fear we are not going to start diving into fiqh etc unless there is a specific question asked or expect your Arabic to be perfect (I just say peace & blessings be upon him, when I mention the Prophet (PBUH)! As I know I struggle a bit with the Arabic verbally & no 1 minds a bit - even though I still feel a bit bad about it myself mind you - am having lessons (so InshaAllah this “old dog can learn new tricks!”).

We are just really all about creating a non judgemental & caring place where we can all share our lives with eachother if that’s what we want to do or just ruin the diets we’re supposed to be on secretly! (For the married ones anyway!)

We look forward to meeting you soon InshaAllah.

I for 1 have already benefitted significantly enough from joining this group to write this glowing summary & have only been twice!! (Hope neither of us are being “led astray!”)

Despite my brief time in this group I am 100% convinced of the integrity of this group - never written anything like this in my life before! (Hardly ever rate eBay sellers - let alone anything else!). InshaAllah I (along with the rest of the group) will have the pleasure of meeting you, listening to you & sharing the most excellent chai & cake with you at our next meet - did I mention we sit on chairs!!!

When I moved to Bristol, I was already a few years into my journey with Islam. I was looking for guidance, a community and sisterhood - alhamdulillah, I found it with the Sisters Revert Network.

Through attending the monthly socials, I gained more extensive Islamic knowledge (talks on the Deen, on prayer, on Hadith, the prophets and more). My Iman (faith), motivation and strength to practice became more developed through the group.

The ladies at the group helped organise and accompany me to my official shahada (declaration of faith, acceptance of Islam) at Greenbank Mosque. The support I received after was thoughtful and consistent, even now, over a year later!

I made friendships and sisterhoods through the group, I have since travelled with friends from the group to both Jordan and Morocco. It is a great place to meet other sisters.

If you are interested in Islam, or are a revert (old or new to Islam) - I strongly encourage you to attend! In sha Allah you will not be disappointed.

When I first came to Islam, I felt a little lonely and was unsure of where to turn for support. Joining the Bristol revert network changed that completely. The monthly sisters’ meet-ups have been such a blessing - it’s a chance to connect, learn more, and feel part of a community that truly understands. My favourite meet up so far has been the hijab workshop which gave me not only knowledge but also confidence in my practice. The sisters have been so warm and welcoming from the very start. Through this network I’ve not just gained a religion, I’ve gained friendships for life. Alhamdulillah.

I converted 3 years ago. The sisters in the revert group made me feel very welcome and were helpful. There is a real sense of community and is inclusive for everyone. Everyone has good advice to give and often provides references to reliable website sources.

If you have reverted already or are exploring Islam I would definitely recommend getting in contact with this group.

I enjoy listening to the sisters’ different journeys with Islam. The support given to better ourselves in Islam. The boost of positive energy, shared knowledge and motivation I receive after attending a session. The sisterhood and community!
